Individual habits must change in order to make great change in our relationship to the environment. Living in excess distorts one's view of 'normal' to the point where auditing one's own habits and editing them may feel punishing and burdensome. We should be in this together, and cannot rely on a small, passionate group of individuals to edit their behavior and voice that age old insight that has been on the wind since Humboldt's own travels around the globe (This isn't sustainable). If you feel threatened by the voices that admonish behaviors you partake in, remember that you are not alone, but take pride in grappling with that fear of change, with making the choice to grow and to take an honest inventory of your lifestyle. It is no time for ego. There are lifestyle choices we can make from the bottom up that need not wait for administrative action. If you think that the maltreatment of the environment isn't 'THAT BAD,' just remember that whether or not you wish to take responsibility for your lifestyle, WE CAN IMPROVE our position within the wild, our imprint within our natural world. If you simply cannot think of what actions to take on an individual level, I will be compiling a list of ideas shared with me by others in a new tab on this site - so check back.
