Trees:  The Eastern Black Walnut: Learning to Value Botany

Greetings Friends!  Last month, we got into it with the science and history of plastic.  This month, we are going to change directions slightly and we are going to dive into the world of Botany.  Pairing our August book club book Driven by Nature by Peter H. Raven with Adventure Scientists' latest timber project, we are going to learn about the Eastern Black Walnut Tree.

We are going to do this while also asking ourselves 'why does Botany 

matter?.'  As you read the links, the book perhaps, and do your own investigation, let your mind expand to take in the ecosystems that exist on Earth.  We are constantly working towards understanding ourselves better and our place on Earth.  Can you find at least ONE way that the Eastern Black Walnut or some other tree - has affected your life positively?  negatively?

Look into your relationship with the plants around you; what do you notice?

​

I am only posting a few articles because I'd love you to take the chance to read our book of the month if possible.  If you don't have access to the book, please look into Peter H. Raven's work online in the links I've posted for you.  Get a sense of his thought process around the importance of seeing nature more fully in all the intricacies it holds.
